'I do not know of any other writer who has done as much with language ... a very funny book' William S. Burroughs Fifteen-year-old Alex doesn't just like ultra-violence - he also enjoys rape, drugs and Beethoven's ninth. He and his gang of droogs rampage through a dystopian future, hunting for terrible thrills. But when Alex finds himself at the mercy of the state and subject to the ministrations of Dr Brodsky, and the mind-altering treatment of the Ludovico Technique, he discovers that fun is no longer the order of the day. The basis for Stanley Kubrick's notorious 1971 film, A Clockwork Orange is both a virtuoso performance from an electrifying prose stylist and a serious exploration of the morality of free will.In his introduction, Blake Morrison situates A Clockwork Orange within the context of Anthony Burgess's many other works, explores the author's unhappiness with the Stanley Kubrick film version, analyses the composition of the Nadsat argot spoken by Alex and his droogs, and e…

Elvis & the Birth of Rock & Roll | Alfred Wertheimer / Chris Murray / Robert Santelli
The King of Rock 'n' Roll is bornThe making of Elvis, behind the scenes"Elvis who?" was photographer Alfred Wertheimer's response when, in early 1956, an RCA Victor publicist asked him to photograph an up-and-coming crooner from Memphis. Little did Wertheimer know that this would be the job of his life: just 21 years old, Elvis Presley was - as we now know - about to become a legend.Trailing Presley like a shadow, Wertheimer took nearly 3,000 photographs of Presley that year, creating a penetrating portrait of a man poised on the brink of superstardom. Extraordinary in its intimacy and unparalleled in its scope, Wertheimer's Elvis project immortalized a young man in the very process of making history.Elvis and the Birth of Rock and Roll collects Wertheimer's most remarkable Elvis shots from that magical year, along with a selection of his historic 1958 pictures of the star being shipped off to an army base in Germany. Each chapter is illustrated with a poster by Hatch Show Print, one o…

Vienna. Portrait of a City | Christian Brandstatter / Andreas J. Hirsch / Hans-Michael Koetzle
City of DreamsA visual journey through Vienna's dazzling historyVienna combines drama and elegance like no other. For centuries the heart of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the stately city on the Danube, has been defined by vast palaces and imperial grandeur - but behind the Baroque opulence, Vienna is also a place of genteel coffee house culture, epicurean tradition, and a heritage of both delicate and daring music, art, and design, from Johann Strauss to Egon Schiele, from Gustav Mahler to Josef Hoffmann. This volume is a treasure trove of photography from the last 175 years, following the evolution of Vienna from imperial capital to modern metropolis. Like a visual walk through time and cityscape, hundreds of carefully curated pictures trace the developments in Vienna's built environment and the cultural and historical trends they reflect, whether the urban Gesamtkunstwerk of the 19th-century Ringstrasse or the experiments of "Red Vienna" in the 1920s, when the city had a social democr…

SAND: A Photographic Depiction of the Arabian Desert

SAND: A Photographic Depiction of the Arabian Desert features a collection of
images all captured between 2016 and 2020 in the deserts of Arabia. The photographs in this book portray the fascinating transition of the landscape, as the desert continuously evolves and transforms itself daily. An image taken today will never be exactly the same tomorrow " a reflection of the gratifying and profoundly idiosyncratic nature of this beautiful landscape that reflects the unrepeatable experiences that can be experienced only in the desert.

About the Author

Anthony Lamb is a UK and UAE-based photographer with seventeen years of experience and over forty international photography awards.

He incorporates a minimalistic approach within his photography and this simplicity shifts our perspective, so the imagery is less about the actual place and more about the emotional state. He makes use of negative space and an ethereal aesthetic to provide the viewer with a sense of serenity and calm when looking at his photographs, thus sharing the emotions of the moments he captures. His postproduction style offers pastel expressionism to further soothe the soul, giving the viewer the opportunity of escape into the purest essence of solitude. Anthony is drawn to water and open space: this narrative can be seen in many of his photographs. He says, "My wish is to offer different frames of reference that transport you to a place that is suspended between reality and your imagination."
