Hdmi Cables

HDMI cable is the short form of High-Definition Multimedia Interface. A proprietary audio/video interface aids in transmitting uncompressed video data and compressing and uncompressed digital audio data from an HDMI complain source device like a display controller.

This data is transferred to a compatible video projector, computer monitor, digital audio device or digital television device. An HDMI cable is the digital replacement of analogue video standards. HDMI carries electrically compatible signals with the CEA-861 signals. The DVI (Digital Visual Interface) later use these signals. The Consumer Electronics Control compatibility allows the HDMI devices to control each other when needed and allow them to operate multiple devices with a handheld remote-control device. With varying needs and machines, you can find several versions of HDMI since the initial release. 

Basic types of HDMI cables available in the market

Before you start learning and buying an HDMI cable, you should understand that the HDMI cable price depends on the type you are willing to buy. Besides many other features, the HDMI cables also vary based on the type of connectors. An HDMI connector looks somewhat like a USB connector. In each case, the connector’s male side protrudes from the cable ends. It is typically ideal for insertion in the female connector, hub, or socket. Apart from that, there are certain dissimilarities between USB and HDMI connectors. HDMI connectors are larger. They have trapezium shape with opposing faces or slot sides of unequal length. Let us review some common types of HDMI cable connectors.

Type-A HDMI connector

This is the archetypal standard version of the HDMI. Being a common type, most consumers will identify them at first sight. With major demand, they are readily available in five current connector sizes. They are available on almost all branded monitors, TV, desktop computer and gaming console. An HDMI type A male connector measures about 13.9mmx 4.55mm. At the same time, equivalent female sockets are fractionally larger. They usually come in the size of 14mmx 4.55mm.  Like mini and micro versions (Type C and D HDMI cables) the type-A is a 19-pin connector that helps to carry audio and video signals.

Type-C HDMI connector

They are also known as type-c mini connectors. They are smaller in size, and slim versions of type A. they are also commonly found on a variety of portable equipment. Typical examples include  DSLR cameras larger tables, camcorders, and SAT NAV systems. These HDMI connectors measure about 10.42mmx 2.42mm. Like any other HDMI connector, these mini connectors offer full functionality and a more compact package. And like micro versions, the cables for HDMI mini format are available with a mini type C plug at one end and a standard type A plug.

Type-D HDMI connectors

These are the micro version of HDMI type-A cables. They are smaller than both standard and mini-HDMI connectors. But they retain the same 19-pin configuration. However, they have a slightly different layout due to the size constraints of the microformat. The type D micro-HDMI connector measures 5.83mmx2.20mm. With that said they are similar in overall size to a micro-USB connector. And less than half the size of an HDMI type-A socket or plug. A type D connector is particular for audio-video connectivity in smaller and portable devices like mobile phones.
