About Bathrobes

A comfortable and cosy bathrobe is what works wonders for an exhausted soul. It gives absorbency after bath time, warmth when you are cold, tranquillity on the chair swing in the backyard, or cosiness on the couch when watching TV. Based on the concept of comfort, bathrobes feature long sleeves, patch pockets, and tie belts. From a long cut down to the ankles to a shorter style that hits mid-calf, they are available in different lengths, fabrics, colours, and designs.

But do you know where this garment originated from? Robes initially emerged as dressing gowns in the West in the 1700s. Meanwhile, in China, traditional embroidered silk robes were a signifier of lineage, wealth, and prosperity. These ancient Kimono gowns are a huge inspiration for the many robes available in the market today. Later, in the early 20th century, they began to rise in popularity. And today, these bathrobes are widely available in many styles, materials, and colours to select from. If you are on the lookout for one, we will guide you in making the right choice. So, read on to discover everything you need to know.

What you need to know about a bathrobe

The comfort offered by a bathrobe is undeniable. It is designed to help you stay warm after a bath and give you a cosy feeling in the morning. Thus, you can never go wrong investing in this garment. However, there are different styles of robes available in the market to suit varying needs and requirements. Thus, you need to consider a few things, especially when buying something for the first time. By contemplating some points, which we will discuss below, you will get the chance to buy robes that can accurately serve your needs and preferences. So, read on to have an informed buying decision.

Fleece vs wool

Through the years, bathrobes have gone a long way from being constructed of basic cotton. Today, you can find them in almost every fabric material, from silk to fleece and wool. However, your choice must be based on the purpose of use and temperature. For example, a woollen robe will help you stay dry and warm, making it perfect for low or freezing temperatures. You can also find fleece robes for women and bathrobes for men in the same material. However, for higher temperatures, lightweight fabric such as silk is suitable. But, choose waffle, terry, or 100% cotton bathrobes after shower or pool time, as you won’t be putting them on for long.

Style vs comfort

From a Hugo Boss dressing gown to commonly found cheap robes for the poolside, every type comes with varying functionalities.  A classic cotton robe for a quick walk to a nearby store will not make you look classy, while a patterned silk robe will not dry your body after a bath. In other words, pick the right one for the right activity. The best women’s bathrobes with shawl collars or long sleeves are best for lounging around and are not suggested for pool time. You can consider a Kimono-style robe with a flat collar and short sleeves for spa time instead. Remember that not all styles can cater to your specific needs. So, choose wisely.

Knee vs ankle length

Your robe must also be of a suitable length to make you look decent when lounging around. Generally, bathrobes for men reach until the ankle or mid-calf. On the other hand, the best women’s bathrobes have different length options, ranging from ankle to mid-thigh. Although ankle length is perfect for both genders, mid-calf and knee-length are summer-appropriate. Likewise, the perfect spa or swimming robe ends between the calf and the knee, as it gives the required absorbency and coverage. So, if you want something sexy like lingerie, we recommend you go for a short silk robe with mid-thigh length.

Hues, patternsand prints are important

Although colours and prints exude your taste, you also need to consider the season and occasion when choosing them. Bright hues in summer are perfect for poolside parties, while those with cooler tones are apt when lounging around at home or the hotel. You can also go for shades of black, navy blue, sage, and burgundy if you want to air an aura of elegance. On the other hand, hues such as light green, pink, cream, lavender, red, and teal can unleash your delicate feminine spirit. However, if you buy a robe for someone else, pick a robe in neutral tones as it is suitable for both men and women.

Tips on how to buy Bathrobes: A beginner’s guide

Bathrobes are fantastic when it comes to combining luxury with necessity. Apart from being functional, they offer an extra dash of comfort after a relaxing spa or shower. While you may have plenty of big fluffy towels to dry you off, nothing beats a bathrobe when it comes to making you feel cosy while lounging around. Since there are many selections available in the market, let us discover some tips below to help you pick the right one, like a pro.

  • Choose the right material – Most bathrobes are made of cotton or polyester. Cotton bathrobes are ideal after bath as they are absorbent, while polyester or fleece is a great pick for warmth and plushness.
  • Know the right size – The size of a robe generally refers to the waist and length. However, when it comes to measuring, the robe either sits just below the knee or reaches the ankles. Choose the one that makes you feel comfortable.
  • Mind the weight – This may vary depending on the bathrobe’s style, length, and material. For cold regions, a thick and heavy fleece robe is perfect. Thus, using it in the UAE won’t be a good idea at all. In this case, a cotton robe would be a better choice.
  • Consider the cleaning process – Every product comes with cleaning instructions, so check them carefully. Consider how often you will be wearing the robe and how often it needs to be washed. This way, it can stand the test of time.
  • Know your design preferences – Choosing a design depends on how you prefer to be covered. Most robes have a belt that ties around the waist to ensure a perfect fit for different sizes. It also helps to keep the robe in place while you move.

Bathrobes are better than pyjamas for a busy morning routine, as they can be put on and taken off in a jiffy. So whether you love to snuggle up in a robe after a relaxing shower or want to grab something quickly from a nearby store, robes can come in handy now and then. Particularly, a silk one can make you look nifty in the morning aside from adding a luxurious spa-like feel to your bath time. On the lookout for the latest designs that suit your taste? Question & Answer

What kinds of bathrobes are there?

Bathrobes are clothing items available in a wide range of styles and fabric options. Explore the collections of Zara, Versace, and other brands to find the one that you like the most. Waffle or lightweight bathrobes are perfect to use after swimming, while terry cloth is best after a shower. You can also choose a classic bathrobe that gives your body ample space to move. If you want something you can use as a spa robe or dressing gown, Kimonos with varying styles and prints are the perfect ones to go for.

Which bathrobes are the best to use?

Well, it depends on your lifestyle, taste, and weather conditions. For instance, you can use a fleece robe for women in warm areas, but it can’t be the right choice in cold regions. Likewise, a Hugo Boss dressing gown can help you stay comfortable in the morning but won’t absorb all the moisture on your body after a bath. The same goes for the parachute bathrobe and Snowe bathrobe. However, cotton bathrobes, Kimonos, and terry long hooded robes are versatile options.

How to fold a bathrobe?

Start by putting the robe upside down on a flat surface. Next, take both shoulders one by one and fold them backwards, placing them evenly on the backside of the robe.  Now, wrap both sleeves on the back and make sure they are wrinkle-free. Then, hold the bottom seam and begin folding towards the neck. Fold in an equal proportion of 1:4 of the total length of the robe. Once folded, you will have a square-shaped robe. Keep it perfectly intact by tying the belt to make a stylish knot.
